BEER WITH THE BREWER
1. How was the brewery named?
Dinner in the Jan Juc pub – post surf, we were staggered to find the domain available. We purchased that and the rest is history. Our core range carries the names of our favourite breaks and beaches!
2. What beers do you have at home in your fridge now?
Banks Brewing ‘Good Time’ Hazy Pale.
3. Best tip for visiting the brewery?
Go for a surf or a swim and follow that with some icy cold beers and some of the best burgers on the coast at our Torquay venue – live music every Friday night, Saturday night & Sunday afternoon. Dog friendly, kid friendly.
4. Pineapple on pizza, YES or NO?
Is it a Parma or a Parmi? I’m not qualified to answer either!
5. If you can only use one hop for the rest of your life, what is it?
Nelson Sauvin
6. If you could collaborate with one other brewery, who would you choose?
Tree House Brewing, Charlton MA – some of the best beer in the world.
7. Some occasions call for the ‘perfect’ beer, what are you reaching for:
- a beach beer? Bells Beach Brewing Session Ale
- an airport beer? Depends on the time – before 9am? Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. 9am – midday? Probably still Stout. Midday onwards – anything independant. *epic to see most international airports in Oz now rocking independant beers in departures.
- the end of the day beer? I love a big IPA to round off the day
- the ‘best beer with dinner’ beer? Depends on what your eating – there is so much space for exploration in the relationship between food and beer. The scope of what constitutes ‘beer’ is so vast that it can be paired with anything!
- to kick back and watch sport with? If it’s a few beers over an afternoon, I’m looking for something with depth and mouthfeel whilst maybe a little lighter on the ABV – Bridge Road’s ‘Little Bling IPA’ has always been a solid session choice in my fridge.
8. What’s the future of craft and how can Craft Cartel beer lovers get on board?
Craft has never been more approachable to the every day consumer. The gap between the duopoly (CUB & LION) and independent brewers is closing and with the market keen to keep $$ here in Australia there has never been a better time to try a local and support our industry.
